Asus Zenbook Duo 2025 review: New power with dual display

Asus Zenbook Duo represents an impressive and cost-effective combination of laptop portability and desktop dual-monitor productivity.

Published

on

ASUS Zenbook DUO

Last year, I examined the initial Asus Zenbook Duo and was impressed by how smoothly its dual-display technology was integrated. Perfect for productivity and an enjoyable feature overall, the extra panel hidden beneath the detachable keyboard was implemented very well.

Asus’s 2025 update of the Zenbook Duo keeps the beloved core design intact; however, it now features the newest Arrow Lake processor, the Intel Core Ultra 9 285H, all housed in the same sleek chassis. This update is mainly aimed at boosting performance and extending battery life for a better user experience.

In other words, it remains the same high-quality laptop; however, it experiences a drawback in one significant aspect due to its new processor. Nonetheless, it continues to be one of the leading touchscreen laptops available.

ASUS Zenbook Duo: Design

Taking the Zenbook Duo out of its box, it appears to be a standard 2-in-1 laptop, reinforced by its aluminum chassis that provides a high-quality, premium sensation.

Lifting the lid exposes its deck, and unaware users might not notice the concealed screen beneath the keyboard. However, the deck’s significant thickness will quickly catch the eye of attentive observers.

ASUS Zenbook

It’s simplest to lift the detachable keyboard from the top edges. Trying to pry it up from the bottom can be quite tricky because the magnet is located at the lower center.

The Zenbook Duo is equipped with a sturdy stand that supports the device’s deck. When the hinge is extended and the laptop remains upright, one screen can be positioned above the other, rendering it ideal for use with the detachable keyboard, which functions flawlessly in this configuration.

My sole critique of the Zenbook Duo’s design is that the hinges of its top display exhibit slight wobbliness. However, given that it is not a 2-in-1 laptop, such a characteristic is to be anticipated.

ASUS Zenbook Duo: Ports

Although the Zenbook Duo 2025 may not have a multitude of ports, it thoughtfully includes two Thunderbolt 4 ports and an HDMI 2.1, providing plenty of connectivity options for most users.

  • 1x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A
  • Dual Thunderbolt 4 ports supporting display output and power delivery, with data transfer speeds of up to 40Gbps.
  • 1x HDMI 2.1 TMDS
  • 1x 3.5mm Combo Audio Jack

If you require additional USB Type-A ports or are dissatisfied with the overall selection of ports, our recommended USB Type-C hub or premium laptop docking station can accommodate any port requirements you may have.

ASUS Zenbook Duo: Display

Dual displays might seem excessive on a laptop, given our usual single-screen setup, but they can significantly boost productivity. Not only do they allow multitasking, but they’re also fun for entertainment. Having utilised the Zenbook Duo from the preceding year to facilitate a tabletop role-playing game campaign, I observed that the dual screens and detachable keyboard provided sufficient space for strategising and orchestrating the demise of my players.

ASUS Zenbook DUO

Fortunately, Asus has guaranteed that you receive excellent quality from both screens. Each panel is a 2880 x 1800 OLED touchscreen with comprehensive color coverage; however, its display brightness is somewhat lacking. While it will not be sufficiently bright to handle environments with direct sunlight, it will perform adequately in well-lit rooms.

I viewed a trailer for Dog Man and appreciated how the Zenbook Duo’s OLED display depicted the lively city streets and architecture, with each hue—from the red brick structures to the purple, cloudy sky—appearing distinct and vividly prominent.

ASUS Zenbook Duo: Keyboard & Touchpad

The Zenbook Duo 2025 features a handy detachable keyboard that magnetically connects to the deck effortlessly, giving you flexible use without being tied to it. The keyboard also includes a dedicated charging slot, making it convenient to keep powered up. Plus, with just a flick of a switch on the side, you can switch to Bluetooth mode easily. My only small note is that it uses half-sized arrow keys, which might take a little getting used to.

ASUS Zenbook DUO Keyboard

I completed the 10fastfingers typing test and attained an impressive score of 123 words per minute with 100% accuracy. The concept of a detachable keyboard may lead one to question whether it feels less premium than a standard laptop keyboard; however, please be assured that each key provides a satisfyingly tactile click.

The 5.1 x 2.9-inch touchpad exhibits a smooth tactile experience, and multi-finger gestures such as switching between tabs and minimizing windows function seamlessly. However, it shares common limitations, as its upper region remains non-clickable. Otherwise, it

ASUS Zenbook Duo: Performance

The launch of the Zenbook Duo 2025 is warranted by the incorporation of the latest Arrow Lake processor, which has been refreshed within the same Duo model introduced in the previous year. Should you desire a Duo powered by the most advanced processor available, this particular model is recommended.

Benchmark of ASUS Zenbook DUO

The Intel Core Ultra 9 285H achieved a score of 16,048 on Geekbench 6 multi-core in the Duo 2025, surpassing the performance of the previous year’s model, which scored 12,873 using the Core Ultra 7 155H CPU. When compared to the preceding high-end Intel Core Ultra 9 185H, which attained a score of 13,653, the Acer Predator Triton Neo 16 demonstrates superior performance.

Although the supplementary increase in power is appreciated, it appears to have adversely affected the battery life, as it lasted approximately two hours less in the 2025 model.

Gaming Performance

Are you primarily interested in gaming? It is advisable not to invest in the Zenbook Duo. Please refrain from further reading and instead review our selection of the finest gaming laptops. Nonetheless, we have still evaluated its gaming performance, particularly to assess how Intel’s integrated graphics enhance with each successive generation.

Performance of ASUS Zenbook DUO

The Zenbook Duo features an Intel Core Ultra 9 285H processor and integrated Intel Arc 140T graphics with 16GB of VRAM. It really stands out compared to competitors and even earlier versions of the Duo. It comfortably hits 56 frames per second on Medium, 1080p settings while running Sid Meier’s Civilisation VI: Gathering Storm, making gameplay smooth and enjoyable. Approaching a full 60 fps with integrated graphics is commendable, particularly considering that last year’s Duo recorded only an average of 34 fps under identical testing conditions.

The performance of the Asus Zenbook Duo 2025 has been evaluated across several of our standard gaming benchmarks in comparison with competitors.

Ai Features

Powered by the cutting-edge Intel Core Ultra 9 285H processor, which incorporates the Intel AI Boost NPU with a peak performance of 13 TOPS (trillions of operations per second). The NPU is integrated within Microsoft’s 365 Suite to facilitate AI-assisted functionalities.

ASUS Zenbook DUO

The Duo features a Copilot button that enables users to swiftly access Windows 11’s integrated AI, in addition to offering supplementary applications such as Live Translations, Image Creator, Background Removal, and others.

ASUS Zenbook Duo: Verdict

The 2025 Zenbook Duo update retains the excellent dual-display setup, vibrant OLED screen, loud speakers, and responsive keyboard, now powered by a powerful Arrow Lake processor. However, this upgrade has a downside: the battery life decreases by nearly two hours compared to the previous year’s model.

Since there’s few direct competitors to the Asus Zenbook Duo, it remains an excellent overall choice despite its flaws. For a similar option, the Lenovo Yoga Book 9i offers almost four hours more battery life. However, if battery life is less critical, the Zenbook Duo remains a strong option.
