Few devices match the 2025 Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 in its form factor. This model is significantly faster than the 2024 versions, thanks to its updated AMD Ryzen AI 9 and Nvidia RTX 50 series, coupled with an improved cooling system. With a premium chassis, responsive inputs, a stunning OLED display, and powerful speakers, it’s a must-consider option for anyone in the market for a device like this. However, it tends to run warm and is quite expensive.

When I powered on the 2025 Asus ROG Zephyrus G14, it quickly reaffirmed its status as my top choice for gaming laptops. It combines peak performance with an incredibly sleek design and stunning OLED display to create a powerful experience. Yet, similar to last year, it’s essential to monitor your battery life closely.

Zephyrus G14: Display

Choosing OLED ensures a great experience, and Asus remains committed to the ROG Nebula display, featuring a 3K resolution with a 16:10 aspect ratio—this slight height increase is ideal for productivity and gaming.

At 120Hz, you won’t get the ultra-high refresh rates of pro gamers, but that is not a necessity. Games featuring full frame rates—such as the dark and atmospheric Alan Wake 2 or the bright and colorful Forza Horizon 5—are truly a feast for the eyes.

The Pantone validation gave me assurance in the color accuracy of all creative projects I undertook. Whether I was editing videos in DaVinci Resolve or fine-tuning colors in a RAW image with Photoshop, the outcomes were precise and realistic.

Also, a shoutout to the speakers! I’m not sure what Asus has changed, but the dual side woofers deliver much deeper bass than in previous models, and the overall sound level is sufficient to overpower the fans.

Zephyrus G14: Design

Asus has been at the forefront of design for the past year, with no one yet matching its success. For 2025, the big A sticks to its winning strategy — the ROG Zephyrus G14 remains the most visually appealing gaming laptop on the market.

This aesthetic, reminiscent of a utilitarian MacBook Pro, features a beautiful diagonal slash of soft lighting on the back. Plus, the CNC-milled aluminum chassis provides outstanding durability and a pleasant tactile experience.

Zephyrus G14: Ports

The ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 features a wide range of ports. Both USB-A ports are here to support you with USB 3.2 Gen 2, giving you fantastic data transfer speeds of up to 10 Gbps! The USB-C ports have different specifications: the left port is USB4, supporting speeds of up to 40 Gbps.

While the right one is compatible with USB 3.2 Gen 2. Although both USB-C ports work with DisplayPort, only the left one allows for charging, and this is capped at 100W. Thus, if the laptop is used for high-demand tasks while charging, the battery will drain more quickly.

Zephyrus G14: Keyboard

Typing on the laptop’s keyboard is enjoyable, even for those who, like me, favor premium mechanical keyboards. This enjoyment stems from the thick, large keycaps, which provide excellent travel and a gratifying amount of resistance when pressed. Even with larger hands like mine, you’ll notice the keyboard deck feels spacious.

I also appreciated the smooth and responsive touchpad. It consistently recognized my gestures, and even with its large size, I didn’t accidentally touch it while typing. Gaming laptops usually don’t have large touchpads, so I valued that this one broke away from the trend.

Zephyrus G14: Performance

Typically, studio-designated models and their gaming counterparts exhibit little variability. Nonetheless, Asus stands out by offering factory-calibrated profiles for sRGB, DCI-P3, and P3, along with calibration result sheets—a feature usually seen in desktop monitors rather than laptops. Furthermore, it’s rare for consumer models to distinguish between DCI-P3 and sRGB, as both standards share the same color space but differ in white points and gamma curves.

Armoury Crate comes with user-friendly color profiling software compatible with X-Rite consumer calibrators, along with a customized version of X-Rite’s software just for you! It manages a fair range of color patches, generating a results sheet and profile. However, profiling is currently restricted to the integrated GPU, which may be frustrating for users. Moreover, due to its dependence on built-in profiles, the software is not suitable for calibrating Adobe RGB.

While it has many advantages, the one thing that prevents me from recommending the laptop as a budget choice for professional color-critical work is its absence of hardware-based profiles. This shortcoming prevents it from restricting brightness to a specific level, whether to meet necessary standards, ensure personal consistency, or maintain uniformity across various screens. (Some gaming presets can limit peak brightness, but they do so through gamma settings, which do not align with profiles that follow standard gamma curves.) Although this limitation doesn’t entirely disqualify it for professional use, it is an essential factor to consider.

Zephyrus G14: Drawbacks

Nevertheless, I have one small concern regarding the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14. This issue is unavoidable, considering the power demands of gaming laptops.

Poor Battery Life

Gaming laptops are renowned for their powerful performance; however, they often have relatively short battery lives. You can expect around two hours for gaming and about six to seven hours for productivity.

During the PCMark 10 gaming battery life benchmark test, the Zephyrus G14 achieved a score of only 1 hour and 6 minutes. This result is quite disappointing, even by gaming laptop standards.

During our typical battery test, where we continuously browse the web on Wi-Fi at a brightness of 150 nits, the device operated for 6 hours and 45 minutes. Although you might notice better battery performance when not gaming, falling short of seven hours means it may not be adequate for a full workday if you’re relying on this device for productivity tasks.

Zephyrus G14: Verdict

The ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 is a perfect choice for anyone seeking a powerful and stylish gaming laptop. While it competes closely with the HP Omen Transcend 14, the Asus model outperforms it and includes more ports. Although the $1,999 price tag for the reviewed model may seem steep, it offers exceptional value considering its features.

The primary issue holding back the Zephyrus G14 from achieving greatness is its limited battery life. While most users usually keep gaming laptops connected to a power source, battery longevity becomes a significant concern if you intend to use this device for work outside.

That aside, I wholeheartedly recommend the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 to anyone seeking a well-priced gaming rig that delivers exceptional performance, style, and overall usability.
